Dr. Janak Raj Jai was born on 23rd August, 1931 in village Ramdas
(District Amritsar) Punjab. He had his earlier education up to matriculation
from Baba Buddha Khalsa High School, Ramdas. His village is quite close to
Pakistan Border. After partition of the country the whole family shifted to
Delhi in 1947. He did his graduation from Punjab University, Master of Arts
from Delhi University; Master of Laws from Nagpur University, and Doctor of
Philosophy in law from Delhi University. He obtained diploma in journalism from
Bhartiya Vidhya Bhawan, New Delhi. He has been closely associated with two
Prime Ministers, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Shrimati Indira Gandhi for about a
decade. He had been a victim of emergency and remained under detention in Tihar
Jail under MISA for the whole emergency period. He has been a part time
Lecturer in Law Faculty, Delhi University and visiting faculty in the Indian
Law Institute (Deemed University), New Delhi; He has also been a visiting
professor, in Amity University, Noida (U.P.). Founder President, Shahdara Bar
Association (1975-77). He has to his credit sixty books on Law, Politics and
Socio-Legal Problems of the country. He has been actively associated with a
number of social and academic organizations. He has been in Legal profession
for more than fifty years. He has been a life member of the Indian Law
Institute, Indian Institute of Public Administration Indian Adult Education
Society and Authors Guild of India. Presently he is mainly involved in academic
pursuits. On almost every constitution day he has been felicitated for his
writings by the Chief Justice of India, in a function organized by the Supreme
Court Bar Association.
